Home Sweet (Fifth Wheel) Home

After renting an apartment for over 16 years, yours truly decided to invest in a home of my own. I contacted a so-called "real estate professional" and viewed several modest-price-point properties.

All of these were incredibly over-priced, what with associated real estate commissions, property inspections, title searches and all of the other ying yang that goes along with buying a house in this gimme-gimme day and age.

Each of the properties I was shown had serious problems, either structural or mold and moisture related. I finally gave up and embarked on a more economical "plan b." I purchased a small lot and set up a fifth wheel-type RV (recreational vehicle). This coach, a direct descendant of the vintage rigs seen here on PORTABLE LEVITTOWN, was built using the most up-to-date travel trailer technology.

The 8 by 39 foot rig has four "pull out" sections. There is a residential (18 cubic foot) refrigerator -with ice maker- a den-type living room with seating for six and built-in 55 inch LED TV, three-quarter bath with glass-door shower and linen closet, a hitch-end bedroom and washer-dryer hook-up.

The 3531FWDEN Sprinter Limited was built by the Keystone RV Company, of Goshen, Indiana. The 2018 model rig includes an electric Auto Leveling system, Premium Thermal Package "Astrofoil" insulation (with fully-enclosed underbelly) and "Road Armor" suspension.

On the inside, the Keystone Sprinter Limited features two leather sleeper sofas and two leather "theater-seating" chairs. The kitchen is centered on a neat bar-height dining table, with three stools and a booth-type seat. Upstairs, there is a three quarter bath, king-sized bedroom and closet. The unit comes with two large roof-mounted air conditioners and a gas-fired, ducted furnace.

We end our write-up with an interior view of the 2018 Keystone Sprinter Limited. Its decor, touted for its "bold elegance," incorporates a palette of cool grays, browns and whites. The LED TV, part of a dramatic wall-sized cabinet along the entire back end of the rig, is easily viewable from seating in the den-type living room as well as from the kitchen's bar-height dining area.
