Vicki Loves In Trailer

In this section, we explore one of the earliest depictions of a house trailer in a major Hollywood motion picture. "A Star Is Born" premiered in April 1937 and starred Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. The film was remade in 1954, 1976 and 2018. In the '30s, original, the Vicki Lester and Norman Maine characters elope and enjoy a trailer coach honeymoon in the mountains.

In this still image from the Technicolor film, we see the trailer coach in tow. The rig used appears to be an 8 by 16 footer.

The Vicki Lester character fries a steak, in the galley of the coach, as it bumps along a country road. Come to think of it, this scene would be duplicated, with quite a bit more frivolity, in "The Long, Long Trailer," 17 years later.

Here we see a publicity photo of Fredric March and Janet Gaynor, taken on the set of the honeymoon trailer coach.

We conclude our vintage mobile home vignette with a still image of the movie's "shower scene." The stall depicted was in one of the coach's closets. Vicki has just instructed Norman to "pull that gadget at the top and pray for rain."
