Expandable house trailers had been introduced in the early 1940s. These homes were built with two sections that collapsed together for travel and were expanded, into a single (double-width) unit, when the rig was stationary. In 1952, the first "pull out room" mobile home made its debut. The Elcar EZ EXTENDO EXPANDA-ROOM rig for 1963 had two such (4 by 10) extensions. One expanded out from the kitchen, the other from the living room.
